[background music] Sarah Riccio: Hey, guys. It’s Sarah from Sleepopolis. Let me guess. You’re interested in Eli & Elm sheets. Well, you’ve come to the right place becausetoday, we’re going to dive into all three bedding collections that Eli & Elm has tooffer. Stay tuned. We’re looking at the Cool Sheet Set from Eli& Elm’s Whitney Collection, the Bamboo Sheet Set from the Wharf Collection, and the OrganicCotton Sheet Set from the Ferry Collection. I want to start with the Cool Sheet Set because, frankly, I’m a very hot sleeper. I really can’t resist a cooling set of sheets. Now, when I first unboxed this sheet set,my first reaction was, “Wow, they’re not kidding. These sheets are very cool to the touch.” More than just breathable, they felt likethey had been refrigerated. We’ll get into a little bit more about whythey feel so cool in a second, but let me tell you, rubbing my hands all over the material, they feel icy crisp to the touch.Let’s get into more details about why theyfeel so cool and find out if they actually stay that cool after they’ve been washed. The Cool Sheet Set is sateen woven into a400 thread count and made from a blend of long staple cotton, lyocell, and phase changematerial. The cotton is giving me this soft, breathablefeel that many of us have become familiar with. The fact that it’s long-staple cotton is addingsome strong durability to the fabric as well. What about those other two ingredients? Lyocell is a cellulosic fiber made from dissolvingwood pulp that usually goes by its name brand Tencel. It’s frequently featured in the world of beddingalso in clothing. It’s known for being super soft, resistantto wrinkles, and naturally moisture-wicking. That ability to wick moisture is going tohelp the sheet set stay cool and help you stay fresh and dry throughout the night.Meanwhile, the phase change material is whattakes the cooling properties of the sheet set to the next level. I do dive into deeper detail about what exactlygoes into the process of making phase change material. Basically, phase change material also knownas PCM is woven into the fabric. It’s what’s giving it that icy crisp, notablycool-to-the-touch feel. Because it’s woven into the fabric, it’s meantto stay cool no matter how many times you wash it. That said, I have put the sheet set throughthe wash and dry cycle. While it’s not as icy cool as when I firstunboxed it, I’m pretty impressed at how cool it still is. Again, it’s worth noting that both these sateensheen that comes with the sheet set and the cooling properties of the PCM are going todiminish a little bit over time and after you run them through the wash. Each sheet set comes with one top sheet, twopillowcases, and one fitted sheet capable of accommodating mattresses up to 15 inchesdeep. There’s a lot that I’m loving about thesesheets. I think that sleepers who run hot are goingto be particularly compatible with them. Thanks to the phase change material, theydo feel so cool and soothing against my skin. Like I said, I’m a year-round hot sleeper. I could definitely see myself getting year-rounduse with this sheet set. Another thing that I think is unique aboutthe sheet set is its blending of percale and sateen traits. What I mean by that is percale sheets areknown for being crisp and cool and matte in appearance, whereas sateen sheets are knownfor being very silky and lustrous. The sheets has a little of all of that goingon because they are sateen-woven. You are getting this very pretty light lusterand a silky smooth feel, but the phase change material is giving it a crisp feel as well. Like I said, the feel is unique. I don’t think I’ve felt a sheet set that feelsexactly like this one before. The other thing is the Tencel is working tokeep you fresh and dry. You got the PCM that’s working to keep youcool. The moisture-wicking ability of the Tencelis keeping you fresh and dry, so definitely recommending this to sleepers who run hot.All that said, there are a few things to considerbefore you commit to buying the sheet set. First of all, while it does feel very coolto the touch, it’s worth noting that that cool crispness does diminish a little bitafter you wash it. Same thing with that lustrous sateen sheen. Again, this is a common thing in my experienceparticularly with sateen sheets. That luster does diminish a little bit afteryou wash them. It’s worth noting that these sheets are notgoing to stay as icy cold as they did when you first unbox them forever. Another thing about this sheet set is it certainlynot the least expensive sheets that are on the block, ranging from about $279 to $300depending on the size set that you get. The fact of the matter is these sheets arenot going to be in everyone’s budget. These are a little out of your price range. That’s something to consider. Lastly, this sheet set does only come in white. If you’re looking for a wide range of playfulcolor options, this might not be the right one for you. [music] Sarah: Next up is the Organic Cotton SheetSet. Right away, even before I took it out of thepackaging, I could tell that this sheet set is going to offer the most classically cottonfeel. It’s very super soft and breathable and thiscozy, familiar cotton feeling. It’s not got that crisp cotton feel. It’s more smooth. As a sateen lover, I’m pretty fond of that.Another thing I’m noticing is that while itis breathable, it does feel almost like a little bit warm and cozy. I’m almost getting the sense that while Iknow these are going to be less cool because they don’t have phase change material likewe just saw in the Cool Sheet Set, almost getting the sense that these might lie a littlebit heavier on the body. Let’s take a closer look at what these sheetsfeel like and what exactly they’re made of. As you might have guessed these sheets aremade from 100 percent organic cotton. The cotton used in this sheet set is longstaple cotton. That’s the way to go because the longer thecotton fibers, also known as cotton staples, the more durable the sheet set is going tobe.In addition to better durability, you’re gettingbetter color retention, better resistance to pilling. Again, it’s a best-case scenario. The longer the fiber, the better the sheetset. These sheets feature a sateen weave, whichis giving it more of a silky smooth hand feel as opposed to a crisp cotton hand feel. Folks who are less into that starkly crispfeel and more into that smooth hand feel might be particularly compatible with this. One thing that a sateen weave does lend itselfto is more vulnerability to wrinkles. Unfortunately, I’ve noticed that’s the case. Now, I have already run these sheets throughthe wash and dry cycle. In my experience, it is best to pull it outof the dry cycle as soon as it’s done so that you’re spreading these sheets out over themattress when they’re still warm and wrinkle-free. That will serve to keep some of the wrinklesat bay. However, you can, if you hate wrinkles, ironthese sheets on a low setting. That will completely eliminate the wrinkles, but worth noting that these sheets are a little wrinkly. Each sheet set comes with one top sheet, twopillowcases, and one fitted sheet capable of fitting mattresses up to 15 inches deep. There’s a lot that I’m liking about this sheetset. First of all, not only is the cotton certifiedorganic, but it’s also a product of Fair Trade manufacturing, which basically means thatthe folks who harvest those cotton must be paid a living wage. If both ethically sourced and eco-friendlysheets is an important factor for you, you might want to consider these. Another thing is the long staples, like Isaid, are giving the cotton some great durability, but the sateen weave is really giving youthis nice, silky smooth hand feel. If you’re more into a smooth feel as opposedto a crisp one, this might be right up your alley.Another thing that the sateen weave givesis the pretty light luster. I will say that it diminishes a little bitover time, especially the more you wash it. The more you wash it, it also gets softer. If you’re into that silky smooth feel alongwith that light luster, you might want to give this a try. All that said, there are a few things to considerabout the sheet set before you commit to buying it. The sateen weave is giving it more of a silkysmooth feel and less of a crisp feel. If you’re into that like crisp cotton hotelbed feel, then these might not be for you. They’re not very crisp. Like I said, very smooth. Another thing is as I suspected, they do lieheavier on the body. They’re a little bit less breathable. That’s generally the case with sateen-wovensheets. Sateen-woven sheets tend to be less breathablethan percale sheets. They are going to keep you a little more warmand cozy and a little less cool. [music] Sarah: Last but not least is my personal favorite, the Bamboo Sheet Set from The Wharf Collection. You can probably already guessed that thesheet set is made from bamboo. When I first unboxed it, first thing I thinkis, “Oh, this is why I love bamboo-based bedding.” It’s silky. It’s light. It’s lustrous. It feels so soft and soothing on your skin. Like I said, we know it’s made from bamboo, but let’s talk a little bit more about the specific advantages that come from bamboo-basedbedding. These sheets are made from 100 percent viscosefrom bamboo and woven into a light and breathable 300 thread count. Bamboo-based bedding does come with some reallyunique wonderful advantages. First of all, it’s got this natural luster, this silky feel. Also, bamboo-based bedding is notorious forits strong durability, antimicrobial properties. Eco-friendly sleepers might like to know thatbamboo is a sustainably sourced material. There’s a little bit of that sleep green factorat play there. Also, bamboo bedding is naturally moisture-wicking. In addition to this light, breezy feel, you’realso getting this moisture-wicking property that’s going to help stave off those nightsweats. Comparatively, the Cool Sheet Set does havethat PCM so it feels cooler to the touch, but these are also going to be a great pickfor hot sleepers because they’re light, breathable, breezy, and they feel so silky and cool onyour skin. This sheet set, like the others, does comewith one top sheet, two pillowcases, and one fitted sheet capable of accommodating mattressesup to 15 inches deep. There’s a lot that I’m loving. This is my personal favorite sheet set. Let’s talk about who’s going to be most compatible. First of all, this is a great eco-friendlybedding option. Bamboo is a sustainably sourced material. Bamboo bedding is also naturally hypoallergenic. If you’re looking to sleep green, if you’vegot sensitive skin, this is not a bad idea. Another thing is this bedding offers thisvery silky feel, this really beautiful luster that drapes over your body and the mattressin this shape-silhouetting way that my opinion improves the aesthetic of the whole bedroom. Another thing is bamboo-based bedding, becauseit does come with these wonderful unique-to-bamboo advantages, often comes with a higher pricetag. In my opinion, these sheets are a great valueranging from about $120 to $150. They’re not the least expensive bamboo-basedbetting that I’ve ever tested, but they’re certainly not the most expensive. They’re about middle of the road but, in myopinion, a great value for what you’re getting. Not to mention, you do have 45 days to testthis bedding before you commit. A few things to consider about these sheetsbefore you commit to buying them.First of all, that silky feel is also contributingto a little bit of a slippery feel. Folks who like that crisp feel, these mightnot necessarily be up your alley. Also, the pillowcases do a little bit of slippingand sliding on the sheets because they are very silky. It’s something to keep in mind. Another thing is bamboo bedding does havea reputation for being very wrinkly. I will say that when I first unboxed thesesheets, they were riddled with wrinkles, but I’m pleased to say that after I washed anddried them, not only do they feel softer, but the wrinkles shook out nicely. Now, if you really hate wrinkles, you caniron these on a low setting. If you want to know more about the specificcare instructions for this bedding, I do dive into all that detail in my full written review, which is linked below.
